LO3: Development of Products - Social Media Video + Survey + Banner

To do

  • Find sound effects - girls laughing and talking, swooshing transition noise

  • Side by side screenshots before and after colouring
  • Showing titles and brand consistency in house style

I created two sequences in this project to test two different ideas for my video out. However, both videos would have 'Talking' and 'Action' sections, so for this I used Adobe Bridge to rate the shots, then bring them into Adobe Premiere section out into different bins, to make the creation process easier as all the shots I needed were easily found and sifted through.

This is the process in which I created my timeline for the project, and so the video. Using the bins, which I made previously, I separated different parts of video together to get the feeling I wanted for the video. Long scenes at the beginning and end brought the overarching primary theme of teamwork and fun to the forefront of the audience's mind. The second part of the video was fast paced action shots. To get the wanted feel for this, I mainly included medium - close up shots, with fast camera movements and popular actions such as tackling or rucking (parts of the sport people are attracted to). Initially I had these shots playing for less than half a second each (0.2 seconds), but I decided that while this set the pace I wanted to show the audience the contents in more detail, so I made the clips longer to show off the action, which this segment was all about as it was before the 'Fast' title. Building on this, the next segment showed longer shots of action, however, these scenes showed off the highlights of a match, to show the audience in more detail what rugby is about. And finally, I ended on a blank screen with the required information shown on titles, played for long enough for people to note down or remember so they can pursue the links if interested.

Although I wanted to create the image that although rugby is action-packed, it's a sport for 'real', everyday people, I chose to colour the video to make it stand out more and appear more vibrant and attractive, while not being so loud and bright that it detracted from the scenes. After searching, I decided on SL Clean Punch HDR (Universal), because it subtly lightens up the shots and makes the colours pop, without being to obvious.

I used an upbeat, happy guitar song for this video, to show that rugby is a socially oriented sport which the song connotes, although the fast tempo and rock undertones do also connote action which is also included.

I chose not to use a LUT for this video, as I wanted to connote a real, clean theme for the video, as it focuses heavily on teamwork and community rather than a cinematic, action-packed experience.

I chose to keep my survey short - only three questions, as this will be distributed in conjunction to a video on social media - so people will want to spend as little time as possible on a survey. Because of this, I only addressed the key issues, how successful the video was (info I can take into account for future projects), will it be distributed, and was it successful.

This was the set up for my banner. I used standard sizes for social media banners, 800x320, the measurements irrelevant as it can be scaled in the programme, as it's the appropriate size for the places on different social medias. RGB colour was used as it's a solely web creation, and RGB is the preferred colour palette for web opposed to CMYK, which will create a more professional look.

These are the two images I created to be combined for my banner. The first one to appear, featuring the rugby ball and the hashtag #innerwarrior, is effective as it conveys the subject, rugby, and the purpose which is to share the hashtag.
The second simply shows the necessary information required to join the sport, or at least contact for more information, which is the purpose of the campaign.
I imported the images of the two banners to Adobe Photoshop to layers, so I can import them to layers in the timeline to create my gif.
This is the sequence used for my gif, short and simple with two alternating frames to show the information and the hashtag to be used clearly and easily.
I exported the gif in a .gif format via the 'Export to Web' option in Adobe Photoshop as the banner's purpose is to appear on the web.

I made the banner simple, two frames alternating every 2 seconds. This is because the information is the primary attraction/purpose of the banner, and as a result I didn't include large effects that would detract from this.
